The connection with names and places has always been an interesting one.
Ever wonder how Mysore got its name and the story behind it? What has a demon got to do with Mysore? The importance of the goddess Chamundeshwari in a Dasara procession.
The answers to these interesting questions lie here at

Hi there. Very interesting article; and a strangely beautiful statue also.
Thank you. The story of history always seems a gripping one and this statue led us to one such lovely story.. All thanks to Royal Mysore Walks 🙂
I’d known that the Mysore gets it’s name from Mahishasura, but didn’t know that it was once called Mahishana Ooru. Any idea how old this statue on Chamundi is?
🙂 . Mahishana ooru later came on to be known as mysore. Similar to the story of Bangalore- benda kaalu ooru 🙂 ..
The statue is quite an old one, build during the time of Wodeyars. 1659 says the date..
1659? wow!!
Hmmm interesting! Thanks for sharing buddy 🙂
