Contrary to most reviews I had heard from the past 3 days, DON 2 turned out to be a pleasant surprise. There sure were certain highlights to like the movie and a couple of shortcomings. I would rather like to focus on the promises the movie offers. Shahrukhs’s acting supported duly with an equal passion from Bomman Irani mark the best parts of the movie. For all the Shahrukh lovers, the movie has a lot to offer, he does look a little old but I was mightily impressed by his acting. His acting is very convincing for the role. The glimpse of the light humor is well embroidered around the seriousness his character proposes. Bomman Irani is probably one of the best actors I have seen, right from his Darna mana hai to Munnabhai MBBS and now this, we can actually see him suit all the forms of roles he has been offered with. I haven’t seen many actors who can blend so well to the characters they have been offered.
The movie does offer a good story line, there sure has been a considerable amount of effort in the chase scenes and the bank robbery. For the car lovers, the plethora of the Audi’s will keep you focused on the screen. The cinematography is excellent, the way the beautiful places- may it be the Berlin or the Patronas towers of Malaysia have been captured is quite fascinating indeed. You would love the movie if you could appreciate the technicality involved in this.
Coming to the flip side, the other roles are relatively bland. Priyanka Chopra looks splendidly perfect but trust me it is only the looks. She looks absolutely hot, but fails to inspire the seriousness the role deserves. The acting seems a little out of place. It is as if trying to push a pretty girl into a serious action role and it rarely seems to convince the viewer even for once. Never once in that movie did I feel she was a cop. I am afraid that I have to say that she didn’t do enough justice to the part. I don’t know whom to put the blame on- the director or the actor. Other than her, her wannabe boyfriend’s role is very lame, he acts like a fruity goody goody guy who seems like an easy push over. It is too feminine for a guy in that role. The fun is when she is driving a car and he acts scared while she drives on without a bead of sweat on her forehead.
All in all I would say it is a movie which should be watched once and for Shahrukh’s acting, I think you must. There is a certain amount of classiness in the movie to love and there is the flip side as well. Bottom line I would rate it a 3.5 over 5. Make sure that you go in without many expectations. If fails to inspire us as much as the first part did but treating it as an isolated movie, it is a fairly good watch.
Have fun guys, this is a movie which can keep you occupied for a good 2 hrs 🙂
